SUMMARY:Gullah Geechee Junkanoo Festival
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Brookgreen Gardens’ 9th annual Gullah Geechee Junkanoo Festival on Saturday\, September 12\, a vibrant celebration of West African\, Caribbean\, and Gullah Geechee heritage. Inspired by the Bahamian Junkanoo tradition\, the festival highlights the cultural connections of the African Diaspora and the living heritage of the Gullah Geechee people through music\, dance\, storytelling\, food\, art-making\, demonstrations\, and community celebration throughout the Gardens. \nGuests can enjoy African drumming and dance\, an interactive dance tutorial\, live screen printing\, mask making\, Adinkra stamping\, Maasai-inspired beadwork\, musical instrument making\, community indigo dyeing\, heritage seed packet art\, artisan vendors\, and the Junkanoo procession. This year’s festival is also presented in conversation with two exhibitions\, Regal Threads: The Majesty of Blue and Purple and Threads of Memory: African Textiles\, Adornment & Identity\, deepening the celebration of textiles\, adornment\, identity\, and cultural memory. \nThe festival will also honor recipients of the Huntington Exemplary Service Award\, recognizing individuals from Georgetown County\, Horry County\, and South Carolina who have advanced equity\, unity\, and cultural understanding. Come dressed in colorful\, festive\, or Afrocentric attire and join us for a joyful celebration of heritage\, creativity\, and community. \nHighlights:  \n\nPresentations on West African\, Caribbean\, and Gullah Geechee heritage\nAfrican drumming and dancing by Wona Womalan\nChildren’s crafts and mask decorating\nGullah Geechee food tastings and desserts\nExhibits and Artisans Market\nJunkanoo Mask Parade\n\n\nCelebrate heritage and community at Brookgreen Gardens’ Gullah Geechee Junkanoo Festival. SUMMARY:Halloween on the MarshWalk
DESCRIPTION:Ghosts\, goblins\, and ghouls of all ages will fill the Marsh at this year’s annual Halloween on the MarshWalk. The Marshwalk’s longest running and most successful event\, Halloween on the MarshWalk brings fun and prizes to the whole family! All eight of the MarshWalk restaurants will have amazing food and drink specials. \nFestivities begin at 5pm with Trick-or-Treating along the MarshWalk for the kids. The annual Children’s Costume Contest is at 6pm in front of Drunken Jack’s at the Pirate Statue. Prizes will be awarded for the Most Creative\, Best Group\, and Funniest for kids ages three and up. \nKids ages two and under will compete for the Awes Applause award. Prizes include trophies\, ribbons\, and candy bags. \nThe Adult Costume Contest will begin at 7pm. Over $4000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to the top costumes. Categories include Best Duo\, Best Group\, Best Individual\, Most Creative\, Big & Bulky\, Murrells Inlet Themed and Honorable Mention. All participants must be ages 18 and up to compete in the adult costume contest. \nThis year’s Final Judging location will be in between Wahoo’s and Drunken Jack’s at 9:30pm. Everyone participating will need to register between 7pm-8:30pm at Inlet Shipwreck. Please know which category that you would like to enter when you arrive at registration.\nJudges will be strolling the MarshWalk this year looking for the best costumes until 9pm! But remember- you MUST register at Inlet Shipwreck between 7:00-8:30pm to be eligible to win prizes. \nMake sure to enjoy food and drinks at our eight participating MarshWalk restaurant locations: Bovine’s\, Wahoo’s\, Drunken Jack’s\, Creek Ratz\, Dead Dog Saloon\, The Claw House\, The Wicked Tuna\, and Inlet Shipwreck.

DESCRIPTION:It really is guaranteed to be the most wonderful time of the year at the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk this holiday season! \nWe are so pleased to announce that not only will our MarshWalk Wonderland of Lights walk-through Christmas light experience be returning to the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk this season\, but it is sure to be our most spectacular Christmas light display yet! \nBring the family\, a friend\, or that special someone and stroll the holiday lights on the MarshWalk. Relax and enjoy the salt air breeze while getting into the holiday spirit- and have a Merry MarshWalk Christmas. \nThis spectacular Christmas light walk-through experience will feature our eight MarshWalk restaurants’ buildings along the ½ mile boardwalk outlined in an array of Christmas lights paired with stunning arches synced with festive Christmas music in front of each restaurant! Our display includes thousands of lights themed with the best Christmas songs that will be sure to get you in the holiday spirit! \nThe light show starts at the top and bottom of the hour from 5pm-11pm nightly. Our huge 20′ LED Christmas tree will be featured at the end of Veteran’s pier and will make the perfect backdrop for your holiday photos and is also visible from any restaurant along the MarshWalk! \nWe will also have many festive photo opportunities spread throughout the MarshWalk for you to stop and pose with along the way including a Candy Cane Arch\, a Gingerbread House\, Santa\, a giant Christmas Ornament\, and so much more! \nSanta’s Village will feature children’s activities\, a petting zoo\, barrel cart rides\, visits with Santa\, Princess and Christmas Characters\, and so much more!
